It’s important to measure the value of tourism and see how much it contributes to the different sectors within the country.
That’s the word from South Pacific Tourism Organisation’s CEO Ilisoni Vuidreketi at the South Pacific Tourism Organisation Meeting underway in Nadi.
Vuidreketi says, tourism has become a vital contributor to the sustainable growth of Pacific Island economies, however statistics in many countries are inconsistent, inadequate and incomplete.
Fiji he says, it is quite advanced in these area.
“When they get these together Fijis able to put together reports that does benefit the stakeholders government and private sectors…who are in need to use data for good reasons, e.g. in marketing if Fiji has to improve on its marketing destination in its overseas market, you need to have solid data to back up your decisions”.
The South Pacific Tourism Organisation says, Fiji will see how best they can help other Pacific island countries in the conference.
The three day conference is being attended by sixteen countries including experts on statistics, banking and practitioners from tourism organizations economic sector.
