The magistrates court has set March 9, as sentencing date, of a 15 year-old juvenile who assaulted a police officer in Russell Islands, Central Province, last year.
The sentencing date was set after sentencing submissions and mitigation were made before Acting Deputy Chief Magistrate Shepherd Lapo yesterday.
Police Prosecutor John Palmer personally presented a proper sentencing submission yesterday.
Mr Lapo on Tuesday when the matter came for the sentencing submissions and mitigation ordered prosecution to make proper submission with supportive authorities.
This was after Palmer’s colleague was forced to make the submissions on Tuesday because Palmer was reportedly in another trial.
Mr Lapo said there was no excuse for palmer’s absence in delaying the matter because the sentencing submission was scheduled already for Tuesday.
The 15 year-old juvenile pleaded guilty to the charge of unlawful wounding in relation to an incident last year where he assaulted a police officer.
He assaulted the officer following an argument that broke out within the juvenile’s drinking group.
Resly Brook of Public Solicitor’s Office is representing the juvenile.
