The Office of the Indigenous Chamber of Commerce, Trade and Industries Solomon Islands (ICCTISI) says it is ready to assist shopkeepers who are demanding their employers to pay their National Provident Fund (NPF) contributions.
Chief Executive Officer Charles Dausabea stated this after shopkeepers in Auki working for Asian shop owners say their employers never paid their NPF.
Mr Dausabea said ICCTISI will help by taking the issue up with the Asian business owners in Auki.
“We will take the lead in this,” he said.
“I understand that most Chinese business operators are coming here not to serve this country,” Mr Dausabea added.
“They are here to make their own money by giving hard labour to our people.
“As an indigenous organization we always stand with our local people to ensure they are not exploited.”
Mr Dausabea also urged relevant authorities to act on the issue.
