Your concerns have not fallen on deaf ears: PM
PRIME Minister Manasseh Sogavare has assured people of Solomon Islands that concerns raised by the people have not fallen on deaf ears.
Mr Sogavare made these remarks when speaking during a farewell and welcome reception for the former and new Prime Minister at the Heritage Park Hotel, Thursday.
“I want to inform you all, the people of our beloved country that your messages, your words and your concerns have not fallen on deaf years,” he said.
Prime Minister Sogavare said the events of the past couple of weeks, more than ever before, have been cemented and imprinted in his mind, and the minds of every elected member of the Democratic Coalition Government for Advancement (DCGA).
“We are fully conscious that people of this country expect more from us, your leaders that represent you in our National Parliament,” he said.
The Prime Minister said he might not be the most popular leader to be elected but the majority of the Members of Parliament who represent their people have elected him to be the Prime Minister.
“I want to assure the nation that contrary to commentaries about me and my Cabinet line up as being more of the same; we are a different team in purpose, vision, goals and outlook, despite being the same team in the coalition,” he said.
Mr Sogavare also thanked the people of Solomon Islands for their understanding and patience over the past few weeks during the formation of the Government.
“Let me assure the nation that DCGA’s priorities for the first 100 days of office will focus on unlocking bottlenecks to development that have plagued our country for decades,” he said.
The Prime Minister said his Government will be providing catalysts for development that will fast track key reforms, increase security, broaden the economic base, enhance our foreign relations and most importantly to reach out to the people.
“We have a clear mission and that is the DCGA will leave no one behind.
“To demonstrate our seriousness, we will publicly launch this program as soon it is finalized this month,” Prime Minister Sogavare said.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has also reiterated his appreciation to DCGA members for their trust in his leadership.
“As your Prime Minister, I am first among equal as provided for by law, which means that we are all equal in Cabinet but you have chosen me to be your Prime Minister, and I am humbled by your confidence and trust.
“It is a great responsibility, and one that I intend to exercise in the true spirit of Cabinet consensus and solidarity.
“I will ensure that this government serve and protect this country with honour, dignity and diligence,” he said.
