THE local student who died in his sleep in Philippines was intoxicated on the night of his death.
This was confirmed by Philippines Solomon Islands Student Association president Charles Ha’amori on Wednesday.
“He was drinking somewhere and went back home for a nap but sadly he couldn’t wake up from his sleep.
“We are still yet to find out what the real cause of the death was.
“As for the conclusive cause of death we are still waiting for the post mortem results to come out.
“The alcohol related claim is just what other students close to the deceased reported to us,” he said.
He further stated that a post mortem and casket has been already paid for already and pending the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for clearance of freight to bring home the deceased body.
The student leader said the sudden loss of the local student in Philippines is a stem warning to all students studying abroad to look after their health.
“So far my students here are settling down with their studies.
“Now I just want to re-emphasize the need to look after our health is important.
“We are living very far, away from our families and it is vital to live a healthy live,” he strongly stated.
Mr Ha’amori stressed that there were misleading news spreading about local Philippine based students.
“Otherwise apart from the misleading news where some students in Philippines were HIV/AIDS positive, all the students here are doing well both in their health and in their studies,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the deceased____s body will arrive back in the country this weekend.
He was from Malaita province and was a private sponsored student.
A close friend of the deceased said he never returned home for holidays since commencing his study in 2014.
