A delegation consisted of traditional leaders, Lauru Land Conference of Tribal Communities and provincial Government representatives from Choiseul Province recently went to Bougainville to hold preliminary discussion with autonomous Bougainville Government Peace and reconciliation Office for a border traditional leaders meeting concerning the situations of Bougainville Crisis effects and process to carry out reconciliation at traditional level.
The program was one of Ministry of National Unity Reconciliation and Peace programs coordinated and facilitated by Choiseul Peace office.
Welcoming the delegation, Director for peace and reconciliation, Nick Peniai of autonomous Bougainville Government thanked Solomon Island Government for assisting Choiseul Delegation for the very important visit.
Mr Peniai informed Choiseul delegation that ABG and people of Bougainville respect and maintains traditional ties between the two provinces and will work closely with Choiseul Peace office to find ways forward in processing reconciliation at traditional level.
He assured Choiseul Delegation that ABG agencies are committed to carry out reconciliation in Bougainville and extra territorial Boundaries including Choiseul and Western Provinces of Solomon Islands.
A memorandum of understanding with reconciliation issues was signed at a closing function hosted by ABG agencies.
A technical committee was appointed and to oversee the reconciliation program and coordinate the Traditional Leaders meeting scheduled to be held at Gizo, western province.
Deputy Director of Choiseul Peace Office William Kutini said the visit was very successful which will pave way for peace and reconciliation to the people of Choiseul, Western and Bougainville.
