One ship per day is not enough for Malaita.
That was according to most of the Auki residents and travellers are saying during the current peak traveling time.
Auki town was known as the only provincial town with the best shipping service in the country with ships available almost every day for those wishing to travel to the capital Honiara.
Unlike other provincial capitals which only have access to shipping service once a week or even once a month, Auki was the best connected town to Honiara with a fine shipping services, it was highlighted.
Despite frequent shipping services to Auki, a single ship per day was not enough for the demand for shipping service in Malaita province as witnessed on Tuesday morning at the Auki wharf when passenger were turned back because only one passenger ship was available for the morning.
For shipping companies servicing Malaita province, the Auki route was the most economical route given the closeness of the distance from the capital Honiara and huge number of traveling passengers from Malaita.
In Auki now, the traveling population to Honiara per day needed two passenger vessels as one passenger vessel was simply not enough.
And during busy times like the festive session, the demand for Auki and Honiara route needed more than two passenger vessels to cater for the demand for shipping service in the province.
