THE position of the deputy Speaker in the National Parliament has been left vacant.
This followed the elevation of Central Honiara MP John Moffat Fugui to become Minister for Education.
Mr Fugui was the deputy speaker until this week when he was sworn-in to take up his ministerial appointment.
Speaker of Parliament Ajilon Nasiu, announced the vacancy yesterday in parliament.
He said the House will soon elect a Deputy Speaker to assist him to perform their work in administrating meeting sessions.
Mr Nasiu said according to section 64 of the Constitution and order 5 of the standing orders, nomination is now opened for two clear days before election of deputy speaker takes place.
The Speaker added nomination for new candidates must be submitted to the Clerk of the Parliament Clezy Rore.
He thanked Mr Fugui for his assistance and wished him well in his new role.
