Honiara City Council (HCC) Clerk Charles Kelly has warned people who are littering and using the overhead bridge at China Town to dispose their waste.
The overhead pass had been used as a public toilet during the night for years now which prompted calls to respect the bridge.
Mr Kelly said its important that people must respect such public facility.
“The overhead pass is purposely for public to use as safe way of crossing and reduces unnecessary accidents.”
He described people disposing their waste as senseless people who lacks the right attitude of respecting public facilities.
“People must respect those infrastructures because it is for everyone to use.”
HCC head of health and environment George Titiulu also issued similar sentiments while calling for the public to be responsible.
He said such careless attitude poses health risks to people using the bridge as well as people living close nearby.
The Solomon Star visited the overhead pass yesterday and saw piles of wastes along the pathway forcing many people to turn back due to the heavy smell.
Meanwhile a Honiara resident had suggested that city council should set up a gate and door at both ends of the bridge and install light so that people cannot access it during the night.
“That’s one solution to address this issue problem.”
