SOLOMON Islands National Women’s U19 Team are set to take on American Samoa on Monday, 10th March for their second match of the OFC U19 Women’s Championship Qualifying Stage at the Loto Tonga Soka center in Tonga.
A defeat for Solomon Islands on Monday means their elimination from the championship.
A victory over the American Samoans would grant them their first three points, but would further require a victory by American Samoa over Tonga to secure their dream to secure their placement in Tahiti.
Tonga defeated Solomon Islands 1-0 in the opening match of the championship.
The winner of this qualifying stage will secure a spot in the final tournament to be held in Tahiti in September.
Meanwhile, the Tongans are aiming to secure their place in Tahiti following their first win over Solomon Islands. Their focus is now is to beat American Samoa in order to qualify for the main competition later this year.
Hosts Tonga are leading the score table after securing 3 points following their win over Solomon Islands last Friday, whilst Solomon Islands and American Samoa still sit with zero point.
Whilst today’s match is Solomon Islands second, it will be the first for American Samoa.
Tonga’s last game will be against American Samoa on Thursday.
Matangi Tonga online reported that Tonga’s U-19 Women’s Team plan to redeem themselves after finishing at the bottom of Group A in the 2023 tournament, which led to their placement in the qualifying rounds this year.
