Dear Editor – I am writing to share my concern on the recent revelation published in the Solomon Star News website on 6th October, 2024 regarding the lack of inclusion of the Solomon Islands Women in Business Association (SIWIBA) in regards to the Economic Stimulus Package (ESP).
SIWIBA plays an important role in empowering women business owners and supporting small women owned enterprises in the country.
Amidst challenging economic times brought about by the pandemic’s effects it’s disheartening to witness the neglect of a group that actively strengthens the fabric of our communities.
During the COVID-19 pandemic women business owners and entrepreneurs encounter challenges in securing financial assistance, in ensuring their businesses thrive.
Failure to incorporate SIWIBA into the ESP funding will help aggravate the marginalization of women, hindering our strides towards achieving gender equality.
Empowering women organisations like SIWIBA goes beyond achieving equality. It’s a factor, in driving a nations progress and prosperity as a whole.
When women are empowered and given the opportunity to thrive and succeed in the society, they contribute significantly to the well-being of their communities.
Acknowledging and backing the contributions women make in all spheres of life is paramount, to creating a future for everyone.
By dedicating resources to empower women nations can unlock their potential and capabilities setting the stage for advancement and growth.
I call on our good government to prioritise support for women led organisations such as the SIWIBA going forward as it can have an impact on the lives of our women and I look forward to a future where every woman is empowered to succeed and play a role, in our shared prosperity.
Thank you for your attention on this issue.
Sincerely,
