A Two days reflection workshop for male advocates against domestic violence in Malaita province has successfully ended in Auki, Wednesday.
The workshop was attended by 21 male. Some of them also have their wife joining the workshop at Malaita Christian Care centre.
Manager of Malaita Christian Care Centre (MCC), Sr Doreen Awaiasi said the reflection workshop is part of a mission to eradicate or end violence against women by engaging men to lead by demonstrating a role model at the communities.
She said the workshop will help to equip them to carry out advocacy programs at their respect places where women (wife) should be responsible to support them with the responsibility.
Sr Doreen said she is pleased that the workshop will help the male participants to be able to support the work of MCC.
“A lot of the programs that aim to empower women turn to forget men, whom I believe are the root cause of violence at home.
“Most violence issue faced by women and girls are caused by men. Therefore, the program is targeting men to help in advocate against Domestic violence.
“If we allow our men to get on board the program, it can be really supportive by reaching down to perpetrators.”
A participant James Mani said he was happy to be part of the very important workshop which he believe will help and encourage him to continue advocate against domestic violence in the community.
The participants also learn from brief presentation of ACOM policy presented by ACOM Evangelical officers.
The workshop was supported by the pacific partnership to end violence against women and girls, funded primarily by the European Union (EU) with contribution from the government of Australia and New Zealand, and UN women.
