SOLOMON Islands Kurukuru and Dawn FC player, Calvin Do’oro has signed with Chinese Futsal League side Xiangyu FC this week.
The confirmation was made by the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) yesterday.
Do’oro is reported to have caught the eyes of club during the recent Melanesian Futsal Cup in Fiji.
He played a vital role in helping Solomon Islands Kurukuru lift the trophy and finished the tournament as joint top scorer with Ramzan of Fiji.
“SIFF has also received the offer from the Chinese club after the recent Melanesian Cup and assisted the player with all the paperwork including his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and communication.
“All transfer formalities are completed pending a Chinese visa for the player,” a statement from SIFF said.
The statement added that SIFF is calling on the Chinese Embassy in Honiara and the Solomon Islands Ministry of Foreign Affairs to sort the player’s help visa immediately, so he can leave for China soon as the player needs to play in the second round of the season for his new club.
This is a breakthrough in sports for Solomon Islands and China to see a Solomon Islander playing in China and a positive outcome for the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
“It will also benefit the player’s family and contribute to the country’s economy through remittance as the player will be paid on a professional contract,” the statement adds.
Do’oro is currently away with the national futsal team on national duty in Vietnam and is awaiting his visa to confirm the next phase of his move to China.
Xiangyu FC plays in the Chinese Super League and consists of 12 clubs.
