The heavy downpour over the weekend has caused damages and blockage to Honiara’s main road and residential areas.
As observed at the Kukum highway, with the blockage of the drainage system by debris, the ran-off then diverted into the main highway from the Kukum market up to Fishing Village market.
Residential areas in the low-lying White River community are also affected by rising waters into their homes which some have to be evacuated to the school hall.
Social media users yesterday called on the responsible authorities to immediately fix the drainage and water- ran off along the highway and residential areas.
A statement from the Solomon Islands Meteorological Services said that the bad weather situation is expected to be fine weather as of today while the low trough is moving southwards of the country.
