A drama depicting the old and new Selwyn College would be performed during next month’s 46th anniversary of the Anglican Church of Melanesia (ACOM)-owned secondary school.
Produced and directed by former student, local artist and musician Selwyn Do’oro, the drama would be shown as an audio-visual performance during the anniversary.
As such he calls on former students or children of former students who wish to participate in the drama to avail themselves at the National Auditorium, National Museum 4pm today.
“I will need at least 15 volunteers, especially former students or children of former students to come to the National Auditorium,” Do’oro said during a meeting of the Selwyn College Anniversary Committee in Honiara yesterday.
He said the drama would tell the story of both the old and new Selwyn College and historical events such as Cyclone Namu in 1986 which triggered relocation of the school to its current location in West Guadalcanal.
Selwyn College, one of the country’s premier secondary school began as a co-educational institution for boys and girls in 1970 at Ngalimera, in the Ngalimbiu area, Guadalcanal Plains.
The school was relocated to Maravovo, some 50 kilometres from capital Honiara in 1991 after a devastating flood caused by Cyclone Namu.
A celebration to mark the 47th anniversary of Selwyn College and 26 years of the school at its present site would be held from 9th to 11th June 2017.
The second part of the anniversary celebrations would be held in Honiara from 20th to 25th June.
This year’s 47th anniversary is a prelude to Selwyn College’s Silver Jubilee celebration in 2020.
Meanwhile former students who wish to join the Selwyn Old Students Association (SOSA) Choir group that would participate in the upcoming celebrations are asked to come for a practise 7pm today at the All Saints Hall.
