Dreamcast Theatre Solomon Islands is bringing the first of its kind choir singing competition to Honiara, with calls for local groups to register for the event.
The Sing Above Yourself (SAY!) Choir Competition is set to take place from 4 – 30 July at the Dreamcast Art Hub with the competition format designed to take participating choir groups through five rounds, beginning with live auditions.
The competition is offering prizes worth up to $22,000, a recording deal and music video for the winning choir group.
The SAY! Choir winning group will also become a creative partner with Dreamcast Theatre, an arts and multimedia driven organisation run by local young champions.
“The competition will be a five round event over five weeks that sees choir groups taking up musical challenges such as fusing, modern and traditional elements, and doing choral renditions of popular songs,” says Joey Manemaka, Dreamcast Theatre Artistic Director and event coordinator for the SAY! Choir Competition.
“Aligned with Dreamcast’s overall vision, SAY! envisions a Solomon Islands where peace is centred on its people, kindness and understanding is forged through meaningful and heart-felt art development.”
Registrations are now open at $250 to register a choir group.
Interested groups can register online through Dreamcast’s Facebook page, or hand delivered at the Dreamcast Theatre Art Hub at Chinatown.
