THE Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Referral Hospital (NRH), Dr George Malefoasi, has clarified the essential drugs shortage at the National Referral Hospital.
This was being interrogated by the media during a Press Conference in the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet yesterday about the essential drug shortage at NRH.
Dr Malefoasi said NRH is at the end of the drug usage chain so when the main stock is down, it affects the hospital.
“We are the end users of the whole drugs chain issue so when the main is stock down, we will feel it.”
The NRH has used its Emergency Department as the dashboard for essential drugs usage.
When there is high use of certain drugs, the essential drug supplies will start dropping.
“We usually use the emergency department as our dashboard.
“So now and then when you see the high use of certain drugs, you’ll see a drop,” Dr Malefoasi said.
He said when drugs run out of stock during the day, they will have to restock supplies to keep the work going.
“When the main stock runs out, that is when the drug shortages are experienced at the NRH.”
