A PUBLIC transport truck driver escaped death along the North Road in Baegu-Asifola Constituency in an accident last week.
Information reaching Solomon Star Auki said a private truck providing transportation along the North Road ran off Ona Bridge and landed in the stream below.
It said the driver sustained minor injuries and that the driver was under the influence liquor at the time of the accident.
Knowing that the vehicle is a regular public transport provider along the North Road, members of the public have called on police to investigate the cause of the accident.
A regular traveler along the North Road, John Kwaimani, told Solomon Star that it is high time that police do checks along the North Road to ensure drivers adher to traffic rules.
Mr Kwaimani said some truck drivers consume alcohol whilst driving which is a very dangerous practice, posing grave danger to the lives of their passengers.
He said the accident last week involving the ‘Be Rock’ public transport vehicle was associated with drink-driving.
