DAILY road users in East Malaita are facing unreliable transport service as a portion of the East road deteriorates to its worst condition.
The last road repair was completed last year and users complain of having to pay for twice as much for road transportation.
Farmers, women and children are the most effected people who find difficulty to transport their product from to Auki or Honiara for business purposes.
Speaking to the Solomon Star women from Faumamanu village in East Malaita Edna Mae said the current condition of East road has put a stop to most vehicles servicing the road.
She said women and children are the most effect life who really experience and suffer from the current bad road condition.
“The current bad condition has forced women and children to walk long distance for market or health service.
“At several time we take full day walk from and to clinic or market site to sell our product, its really painful and hard for us.”
Mrs Mae calls on the both provincial and National government honourable member representative to respond and address the need for good road to serve life of people in East Malaita.
She said the fact that people voted leaders to represent them in government; they expected good roads to provide reliable transport services for people.
Malaita provincial member for ward 16 in East Malaita Finley Fiumae recently confirmed that east road has experienced bad to worst.
He said the road needs full maintenance to avoid traffic accident or casualties.
This paper understood on 13th May this year, East Malaita Constituency Member Parliament (MP) chartered a landing carrier carrying new machines intended for the Eastern Esteem Constructors which is the main business arm of the East Kwara’ae constituency which will be responsible to construct new roads and maintain the existing ones in the constituency.
