The Easter 5000m road race champion, Charlton Pegoa will not be participating in the Pacific Games but will do so in the Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa.
This was confirmed by the Athletics Solomon president, Martin Rara.
Athletics Solomon president, Martin Rara, recently confirmed Pegoa has proven himself ready to compete in the Pacific Games following his win during the Easter road race.
However following a meeting by the Athletics Solomon coaches and federation, they have decided that young Pegoa will not be in for the Pacific Games but the Commonwealth Games.
The decision to keep him for the Commonwealth Games and not the Pacific Games might come as rather sad news for many athletes but for Pegoa, this will be a dream come true.
Pegoa, the high school student from Mboeni Community High School, East Guadalcanal won the Easter Road Race clocking a time of 16:40:08 similar to the country’s top long distance runner, Rosefelo Siosi’s best race time.
It was first time ever to take part in any race event in the capital and elsewhere.
Pegeo is looking forward for this opportunity for the Commonwealth debut.
He said he has been training at the Mboeni beach all this time and has finally made up his mind to test his strength.
Now that he knew he has the potential to compete in competitions he now aims to compete in regional and international events.
Pegoa is currently gearing up preparations back at Mboeni beach, his training venue.
