EASTERN Stars choir of South Seas Evangelical Church (SSEC) has won the Our Telekom carol competition in Auki, Malaita province on Saturday.
The Kwaibala based choir group edged Fiu cathedral group of Anglican church with 75.5 points to 73.9 points.
It collected $8,000, whilst Fiu cathedral settled for $6,000.
Leader of Eastern Stars, Hilda Steele said it’s a dream come true after they put a lot of efforts into training to the win the competition.
She said they were very happy with the result because it reflected team work.
However, Fiu cathedral choir group has accepted the result.
Derrick Taka said final was always like that where it’s anyone game.
“We are very happy with the result and accepts it.
“It’s not a big gap and for women in grassroots to end up in finals is a big thing for them,” Taka said.
The former Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) executive member said his group look forward for any similar competition in future and thanked Our Telekom for organizing such first ever event for the people in and around Auki.
Meanwhile, Lillibeez claimed the third place and walked away with $5,000 after it collected 68.3 points.
Whilst, Zion Rivers settled for fourth place which is $4,000 after it registered 66 points.
