Eels futsal team from Auki in Malaita province celebrated along the streets of Auki following their arrival in Auki last week.
Speaking during the Eels arrival, coach and team management Malcom Moli said the boys have done their best in the Wantok futsal challenge that was held in one small bag complex in Vanuatu.
“We have a good atmosphere out there during the games and the boys put up a fantastic show in frontof the well behaved crowd that came out in numbers to support their teams.”
He said six (6) futsal teams competed in the Wantok challenge, four futsal teams from Vanuatu and two teams from Solomon Islands.
Solomon Islands was represented by Parramatta Kingz from Honiara and Eels from Auki.
The competition was played in a round robin playoffs where Avec futsal club of Vanuatu topped the Wantok challenge.
magic also form Vanuatu came second followed by Eels from Auki and in fourth place Paramata Kingz after playing five (5) games each.
In the knockout stages 1st semi-final, Avec beat Paramata Kingz by 9-8, and in the second semi-final Tupuji magic beats Eels by 6-0
In the 3rd and fourth placing the Eels walked over the Paramata Kings and secured the third position by beating their rival 11-6.
While in the cup final the Tupuji magic were too good by beating their arch rival Avec futsal club and claiming the Wantok futsal challenge champion 2014.
Mr Moli also thanked the supporters, families, business houses and friends for their support towards the team prior to their departure to Vanuatu.
