TELEKOM S-League debutants Henderson Eels FC gets the signature of former Solomon Warriors striker Dennis Ifunaoa after the player opted to join the newcomers for the TSL new season.
Ifunaoa’s future was a hot football topic on social media in recent weeks as his name appeared in both Warriors and Eels squad on their respective official pages.
Star Sports understand that the deadline for the transfer window for players to change alliances shutdown on Wednesday.
The striker told Star Sports exclusively he has made up his mind and decided to join Henderson Eels.
“Definitely I have signed with the Eels today morning (yesterday) in the presence a representative of Henderson Eels major sponsor, Advance Technology.
“I am happy to be part of Eels project and we have agreed on the terms of my contract,” he said.
The former Solomon Islands international who help Warriors to a trio of TSL titles said he is sad to leave the club.
“I have many wonderful years with Warriors and it is a gloomy decision to leave the club where I have reached many finals with.
“I want thank the club management for those great years 2011, 2012 and 2014 where we were champions.
“But as a player I had decided to move on and I would like to wish Warriors all the best for the 2017 campaign,” he added.
Henderson Eels’ move to sign Ifunaoa will see the centre forward reunites with some of his former playmates.
“I am pleased to have the chance to play with my former team mates in the likes of Alick Mamae and David Muta.
“I have been working hard in training for the past weeks and preparing to represent the club this weekend,” the striker stated.
Ifunaoa stressed he is eager to perform in the Eels jersey against defending champions Marist FC in the TSL 2017 season opener on Saturday.
The former Solomon Warriors striker is the second highest goal scorer behind James Naka last season.
