CENTRAL Honiara Parliamentarian, Alfred Efona has assisted the Honiara High School with building materials worth SBD$41,000.00.
On the 7th of April, Hon Efona, adjourned his meetings at the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to hand over the building materials to the Principal and staff of the Honiara High School.
The building materials supplied, covered Louver frames, Louver glass, steel rods, roofing Iron, concrete nails, paint brush, PVC pipes, Galvanised pipes, Hand Basins, numerous sheets of plywood, numerous Bags of Cement, Dux elbows, paint rollers, tins of off white paint and other plumbing materials, to the school, from a request submitted by the Principal and staff, to the Administration Staff of Central Honiara Constituency, requesting assistance and help to rebuild what was left of the school after the recent riots and burning incident, rocked the nation late of last year, 2021.
Accepting the materials supplied by Central Honiara Constituency Member of Parliament, on behalf of the School, the school Principal Allan Ketei, gratefully thanked the Honorable for his timely assistance and was overwhelmed and moved by the Honorable and C.H.C teams, immediate quick response to his urgent call for help.
The Principal also mentioned that the Honiara High School, is currently the highest and largest Secondary High School in terms of the numbers of youths and students, admitted to the school, from all over the provinces and the Honorable and C.H.C team, timely assistance, would go towards building a brand new ablution block that would see the school ready, among other things yet to be rebuilt, for the new wave of student intakes for the year 2022.
The School principal also highlighted that the Honorables timely assistance, is a first of its kind and also the very first person to have responded on the scene offering assistance and help to the school, since the school was affected by the recent riots. Allan Ketei, noted that the Honorable MP is also the very first person to respond, since the burning and recent riots have occurred.
The Honorable MP Alfred Efona, was present at the official handover ceremony and reiterated that the only way forward at such a time as this, was for the teachers, students of Honiara High School and the Honorable Member of Parliament of CHC, to work together. The Honorable MP reassured the Honiara High Schools Principal, staff and team that this is just the beginning of many more assistances, yet to come, in the future, as we look forward towards working together.
The MP stressed that as much as it burdens the hearts of former and present students and teachers of the Honiara Secondary High School, to witness their school burn during the riots on social media, this has also burdened the heart of the Honorable deeply as well and it is only right for any leader to see the need and address the situation, without turning a blind eye to the School.
The MP also noted that anyone can be called a leader, but with much power comes much responsibility and the thinking patterns behind power, should centre on nothing else but on developing people, youths, women and children.
“If we hold power and use that for ourselves then we are not leaders but hoarders of our own empires and we fail to become aware of the necessary sacrifices that must be made to shift people out from problems or situations that would otherwise impede upon their own growth and development. Honiara High School and her allumnis, including current staff and students are our future and as such, it is only right to not ignore, but make, the necessary sacrifices required to see that they survive and continue doing what they do and love best, as we lead on as examples for others to follow.”
The Honorable MP pointed out that in times like these our leadership awareness and abilities must go hand in hand together with the people and for a request to be made on behalf of the Principal to the Honorable and C.H.C office, presents an opportunity to demonstrate the leadership awareness needed and is also one that he will gladly assist as part of his assistance on infrastructure development within the Central Honiara Constituency.
“As we are a manifestation of the philosophy of our hearts as one people of Solomon Islands, let us together manifest our ongoing awareness for what needs to be done and make the necessary sacrifices to see that our country breaks the cycles of poverty as we embark on building a stronger knowledge based society together.”
The MP then reiterated that the Central Honiara Constituency is now open Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays, from 9 am to 4pm in the afternoon and should there be any need for further inquiries on what the Constituency Office can do, the C.D.O & staff workers of the Central Honiara Constituency Office, is there to assist.
The official hand over concluded with the Principal and Staff of Honiara High School in good spirits as the Member of Parliament exited the premises of the School to attend to the ongoing P.A.C meetings at Parliament as a Member of the Public Accounts Committee.
