Provincial Elections for Choiseul and Western provinces set for December
PROVINCIAL election for Choiseul and Western provinces is expected to take place on 14th December, 2022.
This follows the dissolution of both provincial assembly on 13th June.
Acting Chief Electoral Officer and Commissioner Fredrick Bosoboe confirmed the dissolution date of both provinces. The election was supposed to held on 14th June but deferred for 14th December.
This was amended in accordance with provisions of the PGA which provides that elections can be deferred and held at a later date thereby the Provincial elections will be held on the 14th of December 2022.
He said the matters regarding these provincial dissolutions are mandated matters for the MPGIS and respective provinces, and the Commission is to help support deliver these provincial elections.
He said the SIEC will be conducting the voter registration update for these two provinces beginning on the 2nd of August 2022 and completed on the 30th of October 2022 to ensure all eligible voters are given the chance to be registered and vote (exercise their constitutional rights) in these provincial elections.
When contacting the Attorney General John Junior Muria on the matter, he said he won’t make any comments, unless instructed to make statements, and only provides advice to the relevant authorities who are legally mandated to make the relevant decisions.
“All queries pertaining to Provincial Elections are to be directed to SIEC and the Ministry of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening,” he said.
