Elite referees in Solomon Islands concluded a five-day FIFA Member Association refereeing course in Honiara on Tuesday afternoon with thirty plus participants receiving their certificate of attendance.
The course commenced on Friday and was led by FIFA instructors Alejo Perez Leguizamon and Subkhiddin Mohd Salleh.
The opening ceremony of the course was witnessed by local football officials and the Director Sports in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Mr. John Baekaua.
The course reaffirms with the local elite referees current trends and interpretations of the FIFA Laws of the Game and combined a mixture of theory and practical sessions.
The referees were also privy to some of the amendments to the FIFA Laws of the Game which came into effect on June 1.
A key feature of the course were the fitness tests held on Saturday which will impact upon the ranking of the referees.
A milestones was reached during the tests when two female assistant referees successfully concluded the test – a first for local referees.
Participants for the course were selected from Honiara and the provinces.
