THE Democratic Coalition for Change (DCC) government wishes to do everything possible to encourage an inclusive approach towards community development and institutional building.
These were the words of the acting Prime Minister Douglas Ete when speaking at the official opening of the 8th Premiers conference yesterday.
Mr Ete made the stand in relation to the theme of the conference “Community Participation in Local Economic Development”.
“….With a renewed spirit, a share vision of enhancing sustainable development, commitment to a sustainable society charting a new direction for local participation in our economy development aspirations with the goal of prioritising the alleviation of poverty and corruption in our society.
“There are approximately 1.3 billion people in the world living in poverty and we as a state government must participate in a big way the final curtailment of these evils.
“Our efforts in this direction will surely bear fruit, if our communities are full time players in local development decision making processes,” the Deputy PM said.
He added that, much of the country’s development goals are in the SDG 2015 – 2020 Financial inclusiveness – Access to Funding.
“DCC is resurrecting the DBSI, SME, Social Security Scheme (NPF), and sustainable consumption in the ocean eco system protection, distinct goal on the appropriate use of our marine resources, forest industry and extractive industries,” he said.
The DPM also highlighted in his speech that, the DCC Government supports any endeavour to promote sound public expenditure that results in delivering of services in health, education and security in the communities of the country. Hence, the provincial government system is relevant in terms of the delivery of services to the people of Solomon Islands.
