THE Tuasulia 2024 Christmas Sports Tournament held in Dala North, West Kwara’ae, Malaita Province, brought together some of the country’s national football players to share their valuable experiences with village-based footballers.
This event was hailed as a significant achievement for players who have spent most of their lives in villages because it gave them the opportunity to learn from national-level athletes.
Amongst the national players who participated in the tournament were John Orobulu and Norman Ngafu.
The Chairman of the Tuasulia Christmas Sports Tournament Organising Committee, Hendrick Aramao said the tournament attracted a large number of experienced footballers, many of whom have competed in top-tier leagues such as the TSL League and HFA League in Honiara.
Aramao said the participation of these seasoned players in the 2024 Christmas tournament provided a unique and enriching experience for the home-based players.
He said the blend of different levels of football experience showcased throughout the tournament was truly exciting.
The Malaita Provincial Assembly Member for Fauabu (Ward Four), Leonard Tuasulia who funded the tournament, articulated his vision for the Christmas sports event.
“The purpose of this event is not just to celebrate Christmas and the New Year festivities, but also to bring people together and share sports experiences within the village,” MPA Tuasulia said.
He said while many people usually hear about or see professional athletes through the media, events like this bring professional athletes to villages to share their knowledge and experiences.
MPA Tuasulia also expressed pride in the fact that many national football players come from Ward Four in the West Kwara’ae Constituency.
He encouraged aspiring footballers to continue pursuing their football dreams and follow in the footsteps of those who have successfully made it to the national football team and overseas football clubs.
