NATIONAL skipper Henry Fa’arodo says they are prepared to challenge New Zealand in the crucial World Cup qualifier tomorrow at the QBE Stadium in Auckland.
Speaking to Star Sports on Wednesday, the veteran midfielder shared his thoughts on the first leg against the All Whites.
“I think, it’s going to be an interesting game since it could go either way,” Fa’arodo said.
“And I am positive we will give them a fight,” the evergreen attacking midfielder added.
The skipper stressed that the atmosphere in the camp is pretty good going into the final leg of the OFC qualifiers.
“The atmosphere is very positive…and the team’s spirit is high,” he added.
Fa’arodo’s footballing career flourished in New Zealand before heading to professional level with Perth Glory in the inaugural A-League season.
When asked if his playing experience in Aetearoa is a bonus, he replied by saying there are quite a good number of players with New Zealand football experience in the national side.
“Well we have almost half of the players in the team who have experiences playing against New Zealand teams.
“So it will definitely help the team with the game plan we have,” he stressed.
The country’s lone New Zealand based in the team, Micah Lea’alafa visa setback is the only concern for the national side as we are 24 hours away from the first leg.
The captain said he is not in a position to comment on Lea’alafa’s visa hold-up.
“All that I know is he applied separately with Auckland City FC,” the inspirational captain said.
The national side will have their official FIFA training session today at the QBE stadium in Auckland.
Head coach Felipe Vega-Arango motivated the players to step up to the occasion as thousands will watch on game from afar.
“This is your chance to create history for your county and yourself.
“This is the moment to believe, stay concentrated and focus from now.
“We will go in and fight a good battle I need all of you to be giving all your best,” the Spaniard told the lads.
Solomon Islands will take on the All Whites tomorrow at the QBE stadium at 6:35pm Solomon time.
