Opposition calls for investigation into Parliament road
THE Parliamentary Opposition Group has called for immediate investigation into the ‘new road project’ at the National Parliament.
In a statement today, the Opposition Group said an investigation must be launched to look into what has been claimed as a ‘crooked tender process’ regarding the failed road project.
“Parliament, Ministry of Infrastructure Development and other authorities must clarify questions surrounding the project,” it said.
The Opposition Office also urged responsible ministries to clarify;
· How much has already been spent on the project?
· The process taken to design the project and how it was contracted?
· Who was contracted to do the project?
· Why the project was never publicly advertised for tender?
· And why the project remains incomplete?
The Opposition Group also raised the question on security especially when the road is now frequently accessed by public vehicles especially taxis as a shortcut to evade traffic.
Meanwhile, the Opposition Group has also called on the Parliament House Committee to seriously look into this matter.
“Responsible authorities must get to the bottom of this and those accountable must be answerable,” it said.
