Some parts of North West Guadalcanal roads were blocked after trees were blown down by heavy winds over the past days.
Solomon Star stringer in that region John Toki said fallen trees forced vehicles owners and farmers to make long stops in efforts to clear the road and debris.
“Most trees were seen lying across the road from Boneghe to Selwyn College in the past days.
“It blocked the main highway which affected those people travelling to town,” he said.
Mr Toki said most communities were wondering where the responsible authorities were to ensure the road was kept clear at all times.
He said they understood Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID) had the mandated duty to keep the road canopy clear and to help advice communities on the road engineering.
“Most of the trees along the road should be cut down to allow heat onto tarmac making it compact.
“Those parts under shade are vulnerable to cracks and eventually developed pot holes.
“So the villagers need proper advice from technical people to help them clear the trees and vegetation towering overhead,” the North West Guadalcanal man said.
The heavy rain was expected to lessen by mid this week as the low depression has moved out of Solomon Islands.
