Members of the family of a 16-year-old boy who allegedly committed suicide have accepted the cause of death of their son at Koda Village in the Paru area of North West Guadalcanal on 21 January 2020.
Information received by police revealed that prior to the death of the young boy, his father noticed his son’s action to be different from usual. In the afternoon prior to his death, the deceased asked his mother twice to use her mobile phone but her mother instead stopped him to make calls in the presence of his sister due to custom.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Guadalcanal Province, Superintendent Nixson Manetoga says, “After receiving a report on this sad incident, officers went to the Village and took some photos of the scene of the incident as well as external photos of the body of the deceased.”
“Police explained to the immediate family members about the process of a post-mortem on the body which is helpful to support a case in court. Family members understood the process and fully accepted the cause of the death of their son.”
Superintendent Manetoga says, “The father of the deceased told police that they have discussed the police process but they all agreed not to go ahead with the process but to bury their son’s body straight away.”
Police have opened an inquiry file into the death incident pending any further investigation should any issue may arise in connection with the death of the young boy.
