Local employees of the national stadium bid farewell as the project go towards its completion.
The event was held on Saturday on the west stands of stadium, where the project team, National Hosting Authority, and the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Labour & Immigration (Labour Division) gathered.
The Executive Director of NHA delivered a speech, expressing gratitude to all the local employees who contributed to the construction of the stadium.
He informed them that as the project was nearing completion, the local employees would be laid off in phases.
The officer from the Labour Division was present to explain the terms of the layoff and address any inquiries from the local employees.
In the afternoon, at 2:00 PM, the lunch was served to the local employees, followed by the prompt disbursement of their salaries and the first batch of redundancy payments.
With the stadium project nearing completion, the project plans to disband several hundred local workers in batches. In accordance with the local labor laws and the regulations of the Labour Division, the project provided one month’s advance notice to the first batch of dismissed employees at the end of May and disbursed the redundancy payment on July 1.
The calculation of redundancy payment complies with the requirements of labor laws and the Labour Division, and it has received official approval from the Labour Division after their review.
The project also signed the terminate agreement with the local workers, the agreement has the date of entry, the date of termination, the total number of working weeks, and the signature of each worker in the disband plan.
On the day of the layoff, the officer from Labour Division was presented at the site. The officer explained the specific calculation method of redundancy payment to the local workers, addressed their queries, and witnessed the process of redundancy payment.
The matters and procedures related to redundancy payment fully comply with labor laws and the requirements from Labour Division.
The project has completed the first batch of disbands for 153 individuals on July 1, and redundancy payment for all the workers present on that day have been fully disbursed.
The amount of redundancy was calculated according to the requirements of labor laws and Labour Division, and the amount range is from SBD500 to SBD2000. At the same time, the project also paid corresponding holiday compensation costs in accordance with the Labor law and the regulations of the Labor Division, with the amount ranging from SBD480 to SBD980.
The project plans to disband the second batch of 50 workers on July 25th, and the third batch of 80 workers on August 12th, and will disband the rest workers according to the project progress in batches and disburse the redundancy payment.
The stadium is a key infrastructure for hosting the 2023 Pacific Games. It will serve as the core venue for organizing competitions, training, and other related activities. It will become the primary stage for various sporting events, and its construction and operation are crucial for the successful hosting of the Pacific Games.
