A LOCAL farmer has called on the agriculture office in Auki, Malaita province to have a nursery house.
John Osi made the suggestion in an interview with the Solomon Star office in Auki over the weekend.
Mr. Osi, a local successful farmer from the highlands of Central Kwara’ae said having a nursery house in Auki under the agriculture office would be satisfactory as it will help locals farmers get the plant they need from the nursery.
He said the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL) always preach about food security to the local farmers.
“Therefore having a nursery house is a way forward to achieve food security.”
He said most farmers in Malaita are good at look and learn and he believes that if the agriculture office in Auki can build a nursery house for all different food crops; it will surely help local farmers to have access to more crops and learn important lesson from the nursery house.
“Forestry office here in Auki is doing a fine job but by actually setting up a nursery house to do nursery work before distributing them to the local forest farmers is good.
“And I suggest the Agriculture office here in Auki should also take the suggestion into consideration.”
