The Association of Solomon Islanders in Creative Fashion (ASICF) will stage another exciting fashion show this Saturday at the Coral Sea.
Young emerging designers from high schools and established designers will showcase their talents and are expected to unveil different wears from beachwear, sarong and casual wear to evening wear.
Leading up to the main event number of activities has been organized since Monday.
The activities include designer handmade exhibition, sewing: Pinwheel quilt and sewing: beach bag.
The activities set out for today are photo-shoot promotions, emerging and establishment designers conference, youth and students emerging designers program, speeches, video fashion and free show for students emerging designers and members.
President of ASICF Justina Radclyffe said this is the 5th year the association has been host the fashion week.
She said the objective of hosting the event is to prepare the local designers before entering into overseas fashion show.
She said last year the association was represented by Luke Gegeo under the label EL Fashion and Frances Do’oro under the label of Proton Creation during the Fiji 10th Anniversary fashion week.
She said this year Frances Do’oro also represented the association at the Fiji Fashion week on March and attended the London Fashion runway.
She said Mrs Do’oro is one of Solomon Islands emerging fashion designers in the local fashion industry and she has transformed her talent into a wearable art.
Her latest fashion design was unveiled at the Fiji Fashion Week recently held at Vodafone Arena.
“As an emerging woman designer in the country she has represented the Solomon Islands with her own unique design collection under her brand the Proton Creation which we are proud of,” she said.
Mrs Radclyffe said this year they are planning to send two designers and two models to the Pacific International Fashion week in Sydney, Australia next year.
She said with the growing interest of emerging designers from the high schools they are also planning to introduce school of fashion at the Solomon Islands National University (SINU).
” To go in line with their plan one of the local designers Luke Gegeo has completed six months training under the APTC in Fiji.”
Mrs Radclyffe said currently Mr Gegeo is providing fashion classes for members to improve the fashion industry in the country.
