RESIDENTS of several urban centres nation-wide will soon enjoy a much faster internet service via the Fiber Distribution Terminals (FTDS).
Our Telekom last week announced the good news. “Exciting news! Our Telekom bringing fiber internet service closer to you via its FDT technology!”
This means, starting in April, residents in Gizo, Noro, Munda, Kira Kira, Taro, and Auki can enjoy high-speed internet through this advanced technology.
In Gizo work on installing the “Fiber Distribution Terminals” has been completed last week.
Head of the Western Regional Office Kalwin Aquillah confirmed on Monday that work on the “Fibre Distribution Terminals” is underway in Gizo, Munda and Noro.
“Three cabinets have been built for Gizo, all set and done, ready for distribution to customers,” he said.
There are two FDT each for Noro and Munda. Taro is yet to build, should be completed this week, he added.
Mr Aquillah explained the aim of these FDTs is; “to deliver internet to various customers in Gizo at very high speed, it’s connection will be much better than copper wires.”
Our Telekom last week in a statement said, it is committed to connecting people and fostering growth and development in the Solomon Islands.
“Fiber internet is the fastest and most reliable internet option available today, and we are excited to bring it to even more customers in the Solomon Islands.
“Using Fiber Distribution Terminals (FDTs) – advanced technology allows for the distribution of high-speed internet directly to customers’ homes or businesses.
“FDTs are a critical component of fiber internet delivery and are used to distribute high-speed connections over long distances,” the statement said.
Our Telekom added, its understands the importance of high-speed internet in today’s world. “With the increasing demand for video streaming, gaming, remote work, and online learning, customers need a reliable and fast internet connection to keep up with their daily needs.”
Francis Wa’ahero, Head of Commercial of Our Telekom said, the soon-to-be launch service is a significant step towards achieving our goal of providing fast and reliable internet access to customers nation-wide.
Our Telekom Manager Marketing, Sean Hiele stated, “We are proud to bring the benefits of fibre internet to these communities and look forward to enabling economic growth through high-speed internet access.”
In preparation for the service, work is now underway in these provincial centres.
“Our team of fibre line professionals will work with you to ensure that the installation process is seamless and smooth,” the company said.
