HONIARA City Mayor, Alfrence Fatai of Vura ward is expected to know his fate around 18 July.
This was when the 28-days’ notice moved by member for Ngossi ward, Andrew Mua on 21st June, will lapse.
Honiara City administrators were tight-lipped over the notice.
However, a councilor, who wished to remain anonymous, told media that the notice had already being served to the clerk.
“We are just waiting for the notice to lapse for the councilors to discuss it,” he said.
The councilor said the move to oust the Mayor stemmed from his leadership quality and values, which he failed to, maintain them in the public, since being elected in February 2015.
“I understand a lot of interests are also behind the move to oust the mayor.
“There will be money involved during the lobby stage to remove the mayor, but it will not be very big as seen in the national politics,” he said.
The 12 councilors, which include four old faces and eight newcomers, will vote during the motion of no confidence.
The ex-officio members, which include, Minister of Home Affairs, Manasseh Maelanga, Guadalcanal Premier, Anthony Veke, MP for East Honiara, Douglas Ete, MP for Central Honiara, Moffat Fugui and MP for West Honiara, Namson Tran.
HCC clerk Charles Kelly earlier said his office had no idea about any move to oust the Mayor, but explained that a motion of no confidence would be valid only after 18 months of Fatai’s administration.
“This is according to the Act,” the clerk stated.
The City Mayor earlier said it was their democratic right to move a motion against him.
“I have no idea about the move but if anyone wants to remove me from the position then go ahead. Its okay with me.”
“I don’t inherit this position so I’m not surprise of the news to oust me,” Mr Fatai stressed.
