Families across the country celebrated Father’s Day this weekend in many different ways.
One of the events which took place in the capital over the weekend was the Solomon Star’s Special Fathers’ Day sports competition.
More than 100 fathers took part in the day’s sports event held at the Telekom Recreational Area, east Honiara.
Organisers say it was not a day of competition but a day of fun for all fathers.
And yes, it was a day of fun for all the fathers as well as kids and families who were part of the day’s activities.
Despite the raging sun, fathers enjoyed themselves playing their respective sports with support from their kids, wives and workmates.
The event saw a total of 20 teams from various companies taking part in the three organized sports – Futsal, Volleyball and Dart.
Eight teams were for Futsal, six teams for Volleyball and six teams for Dart.
“It’s father’s day, it’s a wonderful day to celebrate with sports, and meet with other fathers,” some of the fathers said.
The day ended with the presentation of prizes.
Prizes were awarded to the top three teams for each sport as well as consolation prizes awarded to individuals.
Prizes include bags of rice sponsored by Solrice, mobile phones sponsored by the Our Telekom, drinks by Szetu and cash prizes from other sponsors.
Meanwhile, the organisers acknowledged the sponsors of the event together with their associate sponsors.
