FEMALE candidates contesting various constituencies in Malaita province have been unlucky during last week’s election.
Five female candidates have joined the election race this year.
But following the end of the counting over the weekend none of them have secured any spot.
Those five female candidates are Rose Anilabata and Ann Tanny Oromae for Central Kwaraáe, Alice Aruheeta Pollard for West Are ’Are, Margaret Rose Maelaua for West Kwaraáe and Hellen Luiramo Hodges contesting the Fataleka constituency.
It was revealed only Alice A Pollard out the five has proven herself to become runner up in West Are ’Are constituency.
Attempts to get comments from any of the five women proved futile.
A concern constituent spoken to said that the time is not yet right for women to contest in Malaita Province.
The constituent said that what those female candidates are doing is right but the timing is wrong.
“You know Malaitan always associated with their culture and for women to place in such positions is a big thing to them,” the man said.
Only Vika Lusibaea has won a seat for North Malaita during the last Parliament in by-election.
Meanwhile in last week’s election only Freda Soria Comua managed to secure her seat in parliament for the Temotu Vatud seat.
