Cognitively impaired man hospitalised after a ferocious attack by pack of stray dogs in the Western Provincial Capital
A COGNITIVELY-IMPAIRED person known for roaming the streets of the Western Provincial Capital, Gizo, fell victim to a vicious attack by a pack of stray dogs at 3am yesterday.
The incident occurred on the road between Aussie Ridge and the Premier’s Residence and it left the man with severe injuries that required immediate medical attention.
According to doctors and nurses at the Gizo Hospital, it was around 3am yesterday that stray dogs pounced on the vulnerable individual.
The victim suffered critical wounds as the dogs tore at his ears and bit various parts of his body from the head to his toes.
Fortunately, a courageous passerby spotted the distressing scene and intervened promptly.
Risking his own safety to the vicious dog, the Good Samaritan rescued the injured man from the ferocious dogs.
The victim was swiftly rushed to the Gizo Operating Theatre where medical professionals worked tirelessly to stabilise him.
He remains in a critical condition.
The extent of his injuries has left Gizo residents shocked and concerned for his well-being.
Gizo Police and local authorities are investigating the incident and exploring measures to address the issue of stray dogs in the area to prevent such incidents from reoccurring.
Meanwhile, the incident has sparked discussions amongst Gizo residents regarding care and support for mentally ill individuals.
Emphases have been placed on the need for a more compassionate approaches to those struggling with mental health issues.
