FORMER Solomon Islands national footballer Michael Fifi embraces his new career in coaching leading the Matamata Swifts FC in their 2025 season.
The former Team Wellington flamboyant winger has now graced his new career as a coach in charge of the Matamata Swifts FC in the Northen NRFL conference.
In an exclusive interview with AW In4mation Centre, Michael Fifi expressed how being a coach is a new experience but one he is openly happy for and looking towards the challenge.
“I’m blessed to have this opportunity and obviously it is a big transition for me when I was approached with this role of being a coach.
Last season, I was part of this club as a player and now I am going to take up the coaching duties so I have lots of friends but now my new role demands my professionalism and also commitment.
It is a challenge but in life, every experience becomes a challenge but it is up to us to overcome it and I believe I will enjoy this challenge” Mr Fifi expressed.
The Solomon Islander who is currently a permanent resident in New Zealand has called New Zealand his home for the last 14 years.
Michael Fifi’s hopes of being a good coach also including possible return in the future to coach in the Solomon Islands.
“Later on if I continue to excel and have a good experience, I would love to return to Solomon Islands to coach there.
There’s no feeling like playing in the Solomon Islands for the country.
I also have fond memories when I am in the national teams (youth national teams and also senior national team) listening to the national anthem and wearing the national uniform.
I would like to experience that again but as a coach.” Mr Fifi stated.
Matamata Swifts FC team members are excited for their upcoming season and also the players loved Fifi’s continuous involvement in the club as the head coach.
