(FIJI TIMES) – Vodafone Fiji futsal team will be a surprise package in the Oceania Football Confederation Futsal Championship next month in Suva, says manager Amitesh Pal.
The team marched in to camp this week for the month-long preparation.
“One thing we can say is that we won’t be a walkover team in the championship,” he said.
“It took New Zealand six years to build the team and if we are able to build our team here then we will be a team to beat in the next championship.
“OFC have qualifiers in every four years but they also have invitational championship.
“We will now take it seriously and participate in more tournaments. It will build our team.”
Pal said they had enough time on hand to prepare the team.
“It is going to be a one month-long camp for the players because we want to prepare them well.
“We will take on New Zealand at home and will try to beat them here,” he added.
“We have enough time to prepare so we expect good competition.
“We’ll work on the weak areas which we think we need to work really hard to improve and polish on the certain areas.” Fiji plays New Caledonia on February 8.
