Fiji’s newly elected Prime Minister Rear Admiral (retire) Voreqe Bainimarama has been congratulated by the country’s caretaker Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo.
In a letter to Mr Bainimarama, Mr Lilo has also joined leaders around the world in congratulating the Fiji Prime Minister on behalf of the Government and people of Solomon Islands.
“I warmly congratulate you on leading the Fiji First Party to victory at the national election on 17th September 2014. Your resounding electoral success reflects the strong confidence that the people of Fiji have in your leadership and vision for your great country,” Mr Lilo said.
He also stated that Solomon Islands and Fiji are close Melanesian neighbours and longstanding friends; thus Mr Lilo said the Government and people of Solomon Islands look forward to working closely with Fiji’s newly elected Government to strengthen the important bilateral relationship and co-operation between both countries.
Prime Minister Lilo adds that Solomon Islands stand to work together with Fiji in strengthening and addressing issues affecting the region.
The newly elected Prime Minister and FIJI First party leader Rear Admiral (Ret) Voreqe Bainimarama was officially sworn into office on Monday. He is Fiji’s sixth democratically-elected Prime Minister.
