THE Fiji Times readers and advertisers can expect better print quality and improved efficiency from yesterday with the company’s new four-colour stack printer.
General manager Hank Arts said the major upgrade to The Fiji Times press also included two new splicers, infeed and tension controller.
“The new four-colour press is a Goss and was built in New Zealand by Webco,” Mr Arts said.
“This will provide an additional eight pages in full colour, much better quality and registration.
“The splicers will now eliminate stoppages for replacing newsprint reels during printing, saving time and wastage.”
He said there was also a change from the old analogue systems to digital drives, more power, efficiency and improved production security.
“This, the Goss improvements, and the CTP (computer to plate equipment) has made major improvements. These investments are in excess of $1million.”
Mr Arts said the purchase of new equipment was part of the company’s commitment to benefit the readers as well as advertisers.
“The Fiji Times has been in circulation for 145 years, it is important to keep abreast of technical changes and to move with the times.”
