SUVA, (FIJI TV) – Fiji is ready to explore Sport Tourism as a source of boosting the local economy.
Chairman of the Fiji Sports Council Peter Mazey said as Government moves into its five and 20 year development plan, sports will be a large part of it.
He adds the recent Oceania Youth tennis Tournament generated good tourism revenue for the Country.
“I can just give you example of things that have happened we just had the Youth tennis tournament for Oceania in Nadi at the Lautoka Courts all the families came from everywhere and they stayed at Denarau, but we did a survey on the families that came to see how much money they spent when they were there for one week and it totaled under a million dollars,and that was accommodation and food,that was their spend in Fiji,” said Mazey.
