The Fiji National University (FNU) has expressed sympathy to the people of Solomon Islands following last week’s devastating flash flood.
In a statement the university’s vice chancellor Ganesh Chand said the university was saddened by the disaster.
“The university is truly saddened to hear of the severe devastation and fatalities caused during the flash floods in the past week.
“Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the people of Solomon Islands, especially to members of our extended Pacific family – Solomon Islands National University (SINU).”
On behalf of the staff and student of the university he conveys their sincere sympathy.
“On behalf of the staff and students of Fiji National University, I hereby convey to you, your staff, your students, and the people of Solomon Islands our sincere sympathies.
“Our deepest condolences also go out to the victims of this tragedy and we pray to Almighty God to provide them patience and fortitude and grant all the souls eternal rest.
“We stand by you in this hour of need and remember you in our thoughts and prayers.”
As part of throwing their support, the university said it will be organising a drive to assist the victims.
“The Fiji National University is organizing an assistance drive, on which we will, through our Dr. Elizabeth Rogers.”
Its understood a number of local students are currently studying at the university.
