THE Fiji delegation led the march for the official opening ceremony of the 5th Melanesian Arts and Culture Festival in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea on Saturday.
A statement from the Ministry of Information reported that the delegation marched for more than five kilometres from the festival arts village to Sir John Guise stadium.
Permanent secretary for iTaukei Savenaca Kaunisela said the Fiji delegation had been looking forward to the opening since their arrival earlier in the week and on Saturday, they displayed the famous Fijian mood which was the mood of the festival.
“I am pleased to say that all are in high spirits and the Fijian delegation is now ready to perform and showcase their dances, handicrafts and arts in the coming two weeks,” Mr Kaunisela said.
Fiji has been contributing significantly and has been taking a leading role in most of the performances and most of the policies and perhaps most of the decisions with regards to the Melanesian group of islands.
Minister for Youth and Sports Viliame Naupoto joined the Fiji delegation during the opening of the festival.
