The Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) has revealed the names of 18 football players who will form the national men’s senior football team to represent the country in the first match of the third stage of the World Cup Qualifiers.
The 18 men team comprises of seven defenders, two goal-keepers, three mid fielders, three flankers and three forwards.
These players were selected from the 24 players training squad which was announced last week.
The selection was made by a selection panel following two final friendly matches played over the weekend.
However there were interesting omissions of some players who were thought by many to be included yet were no listed in the final list.
Benjamin Totori, Gagame Feni, Charlie Otainao, James Do’oro, Richard Fono and Tutizama Tanito are the six players being left out from the 24 man training squad recently announced.
Despite criticisms over the omission of these players, many football supporters are satisfied with the lineup.
While six players are being omitted from the final squad, seven players are new and are prepared to play their first international match for the country abroad.
The team will start their journey today for Tahiti where they will play their first leg match.
The match is set for November 7.
