Solomon Water’s Fisheries to Ranadi Roundabout Sewer Project is reaching its final milestone as the last meters of pipelines have been laid in Stage 4.
This marks a significant step forward in Honiara’s ongoing efforts to improve sanitation infrastructure, enhance wastewater management capabilities and ensuring a cleaner, healthier environment for generations to come.
The project was divided into five stages
- Stage 1 – Ranadi round about to ANZ Haus, was completed in September 2024.
- Stage 2 – ANZ Haus to Solo Gas, was completed February 2025.
- Stage 3 – Solo Gas to Maromaro betelnut market was completed in December 2024.
- Stage 4 – Maromaro betelnut market to SINU Kukum entrance is now in its final phase. Pipe laying completed, contractor currently demobilizing from site. Road reinstatement to follow.
- Stage 5 – In front of Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources was completed in 2023.
With the installation of the last sections of the 500mm pressure main done, pipe laying crews are now focused on demobilizing from the site with backfilling and compacting done to ensure stability and durability for the newly laid sewer lines.

The completion of this process will enable the roadworks team to commence resealing efforts, restoring the affected roadway easing traffic disruptions for commuters, businesses, and residents in the area.
The progress achieved to date on this project is a testament to the dedicated efforts of Solomon Water, its contractors, and all stakeholders involved in the project.
Efficient trenching methods have allowed steady advancements, despite the many challenges that come with constructing large-scale infrastructure in an urban environment.

Solomon Water Project Manager Brian Fatai emphasized the importance of this final stage in bringing the project to a successful conclusion. “We are now in the final stretch, with the last pipes being installed, backfilled and compacted. This is a crucial step as it allows for the next phase—road restoration—to begin. We thank the public for their patience and understanding throughout this project, and we are committed to ensuring a smooth transition as we wrap up construction.”
The Fisheries to Ranadi Roundabout Sewer Project has been a significant undertaking, addressing Honiara’s growing sanitation needs by expanding sewer coverage and enhancing wastewater management.
With the capacity to accommodate over 13,000 new sewer connections, this infrastructure upgrade is set to benefit the city for decades to come, improving public health, environmental protection, and overall urban resilience.
As the pipe laying has now been completed, the focus will soon shift to road restoration. The resealing process, carried out by the roadworks team, will ensure that traffic flow is fully reinstated and that the disruptions experienced during construction are minimized and removed moving forward. Full completion expected by end of March 2025.

Solomon Water CEO Carmine Piantedosi expressed his appreciation for the patience and cooperation of all those affected by the works. “We recognize the impact this project has had on road users, businesses, and residents. Our goal has always been to deliver essential infrastructure while minimizing inconvenience as much as possible. With the final phase underway, we look forward to seeing this project reach completion and provide lasting benefits to the people of Honiara.”
The Fisheries to Ranadi Roundabout Sewer Project, funded by the Solomon Islands Government as part of the Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Project (UWSSSP), stands as a vital investment in the city’s future sewerage disposal requirements.
As the project nears completion, Solomon Water remains committed to keeping the public informed through regular updates on social media, the company website, and press releases.
