THE new Malaita Premier, Martin Fini, has assured the Malaita Provincial Assembly this week that his government is confident and determined to deliver to the province within the short period of time it will be in office before the current assembly dissolves.
The premier made the assurance in his budget speech to the full assembly on Wednesday.
Premier Fini admitted that the move by his new government – Malaita New Government for Fundamental Redirection (MNGFR) – in changing the status quo has been viewed by many as against the interest of Malaita and this triggered a barrage of criticism from the public.
However, the new Premier said his team is ready to deliver to the province, regardless of the time factor.
“Since attaining a political career, I never dreamt of presenting a budget speech. This will be the first time for me to present one.
“Before me is the revised Budget for the fiscal year 2022-23 which we will be debating shortly.
“Honourable colleagues in this Honourable House, our move to change the status quo has been seen by some as counter-productive to the interest of Malaita and for this, we have received a lot of hot criticism.
“However, I wish to assure the Members of this Honourable Assembly and my good people of Malaita that my new government is confident and determined to deliver within the11th hour.”
